You have a contract to sign with DocuSign but it was not drafted from one of your templates or for example it was negotiated outside of Leeway and is ready to be signed?

Leeway also allows you to start DocuSign signature (thanks to our integration with DocuSign) from an external document (a PDF or a Word in .docx format).

What are the benefits of starting the DocuSign signature directly from Leeway?

  • Simple and efficient signature tracking: follow the progress of the signature process directly from Leeway.

  • Time saving: No need to start the signature in DocuSign and then manually archive the contract in Leeway, once it has been signed: the contract will be automatically stored in your repository.

  • Security and Accuracy: Leeway retrieves automatically the signed PDF from DocuSign, adds it to your project in Leeway, and also brings up the date of signature for inclusion in your contract summary sheet.

💡 The steps described above explain how to sign with DocuSign - and in Leeway directly - an external document, which would therefore not be created from one of your templates in Leeway or not be negotiated via Leeway.

To find out how to sign a document generated from Leeway with DocuSign, we explain everything here 👉 How to sign a contract generated via Leeway with DocuSign

🚀 How to start the signature?

⚙️ First of all, you need to create a project.

1) From your homepage, click on "+ New project" at the bottom left.

Then choose the option "Start from an external file".

2) Select the type of contract or document you wish to sign from the list available for your organisation.

If the type of contract or document does not exist, click on "None of these contract's types" at the bottom of the list.

3) Then enter the document information:

  • The name of your counterparty

  • The destination folder can be automatically indicated, if you have selected a contract type that includes an automatic archiving process. If not, you can choose/change it.

The destination folder is the folder in the repository where the contract will be stored once it's signed.

  • The project name will be the name of the contract in Leeway - it is automatically generated but you can of course change it by clicking in the field

4) Then add the file you want to sign with DocuSign.

💡 The file can be a PDF or a Word document in .docx format.

⚠️ If you choose a .docx file, you will have two options:

  • The document doesn't need to be modified, it's ready to be sent for signature. To do this, do not check the "Import into Leeway Live Editor" box.

  • Import the document into the Leeway editor: you will be able o edit it before starting the signature via DocuSign. To do this, check the "Import into Leeway Live Editor" box.

👉 To manage a new contract starting from your co-contractor's template, go to this section.

5) Confirm the creation by clicking on "Create project".

✍️ Manage the signature from the project space

Once the project has been created, you will arrive in the Leeway project workspace, where you will find everything about your contract.

To start the signature process, click on "Manage signature" :

Then select the "Sign with DocuSign" option.

👀 If you haven't yet connected your DocuSign account to Leeway, here's how to do it: Install DocuSign integration.

Then indicate the signatory(ies):

  • For your organisation: choose from the list of Leeway members provided;

  • For your counterparty: indicate the email address(es) of the other party's signatories. To validate the addition, click on "Use an email address" (see below)

You can of course indicate signatory(ies) only for your organisation or conversely only for your counterparty according to your needs. You can also add several signatories.

Finally, choose the file to sign by clicking on "Browse files": here you have the choice between the document you uploaded when creating the project or any other document you can add.

If this is not the right document to sign, you can click on "Import a file" and choose another document to sign.

Confirm and start the signature by clicking on "Send for signature" at the bottom right.

👉 Manage signature fields in DocuSign

Once you click on "Send for Signature", Leeway creates the signature envelope and redirects you into DocuSign. You can then add the signature fields and/or other tags/information needed directly on the DocuSign interface.

Once it's completed, you can submit the signature envelope and you will be redirected back to Leeway to track the progress of the signature.

The signature progress is automatically updated in Leeway, so you can track it efficiently, in one place.

❌ Cancel the signature process

You've started the signing process with DocuSign and need to cancel it for some reason?

Good news, you can do it, and directly from Leeway too!

From the project, click on "More" at the top right and on "Cancel Signature Process".

Add a note for the signatories and validate the cancellation.

You will be able to restart the signing process (see the steps described above) at any time.

✅ My signed contract

Once your contract/document has been signed and the DocuSign signature envelope has been completed, you will find in your contract workspace in Leeway the following:

  • The signed contract, in PDF format

    • in the "Files" section on the left of the screen: the original document and the signed document in PDF format are added.

  • The signature date is automatically recorded in the summary sheet of your contract, on the left-hand side of your contract workspace.

You can then tranck the main information of your document, thanks to the fields of the summary sheet.

And don't miss anymore deadlines for this contract/document, thanks to Leeway reminders

Here's how to manage reminders: Reminders.
